Description

This specific piece of Bob Clyatt's collection was fired by the Noborigama kiln - an ancient Japanese wood-firing kiln that exists rarely in the United States. Each firing requires a week of round-the-clock feeding of wood into the kiln to maintain precise temperatures and sustained heat. The smoke, gases and intense heat blast the pieces, layering on accumulations of carbon liquid glassiness and other minerals in a natural process that creates these uniquely differentiated pieces. Clyatt finds in each piece a survivor's tale - the visible result of enduring an intense experience - made more beautiful by the resulting scars and imperfections.
